Wedding: Candice & Hammond – First Baptist Church & Wynlakes Country Club – Montgomery, Alabama

I can’t believe it’s been a month since my last blog post (bad Julie!). Between editing and designing wedding albums, it’s been pretty busy around here, so hopefully I’ll make up for the delay with this extra-long-chock-full-of-wedding-goodness post! One rainy morning, Candice and Hammond made their way to First Baptist Church in Montgomery to tie the knot. If I had to pick one word to describe the day, it would be “luxe” – and what is more luxe than diamonds? If you think you can’t find stylish flats to wear for your wedding, I’ve got four words for you: sparkly silver Jimmy Choos! The fabulous flowers, decor, and event planning were courtesy of Weddings by Jill:When Hammond first saw Candice in her Pronovias gown, he looked a bit starstruck……and I could hardly blame him, because Candice makes gorgeous look effortless:The Wynlakes Country Club Ballroom was decked out in crystals, shades of pale blue, and candlelight:The father-daughter dance started out innocently sweet……until the music turned into a booty shakin’ remix and the most EPIC choreographed dance routine ever!!! This was a total surprise to everyone, including me!A little Pulp Fiction, anyone?Superstar!!!The bride’s cake was courtesy of Olexa’s in Birmingham:And they attacked the always popular chocolate peanut butter groom’s cake from Peggy McKinney Cakes:The Heather Hayes Band brought the funk from Atlanta:And at the stroke of midnight, Cinderella and her prince left the ball:Candice and Hammond: I hope your St. Lucia honeymoon was unforgettable – we need to get together for a La Jolla dinner with the crew sometime soon, it’s been too long!

Portrait: Josh – Montgomery, Alabama

After seeing the retro “Mad Men” inspired shoot I did with our mutual friend Ty, Josh approached me about doing a session with a few ideas of his own, including a Calvin Klein inspired look that could have come straight off their packaging (sorry ladies, those shots won’t be making an appearance here!). But he was also open to whatever I came up with – I wanted to keep the wardrobe really simple overall, because sometimes less is more.I also wanted to poke a little fun at a nickname Ty bestowed on Josh: “Superman”. Apparently, when Josh is in business attire, he looks a lot like Clark Kent. So I figured why not shoot Clark Kent turning into Superman in the studio? 🙂The first idea I had for the shoot had to be saved for last, because I wanted to involve water. So after putting down some towels and pressing water into a new shirt that seemed oddly water resistant, we got the look I wanted.Special thanks to Ty Eiland for helping with hair and wardrobe, as well as being the designated water pourer!

Destination Wedding: Kara & Rick – Sunrise Beach Club & Luciano’s of Chicago – Nassau, Bahamas

Once upon a very hot, very sunny day in the Bahamas, the Wyndham Nassau was abuzz with wedding goodness. The beautiful Melissa Sweet gown hung in the bedroom……while handwritten vows sat on a table.Since Kara & Rick are from Colorado and found me online, I hadn’t met them until the day before the wedding. But I knew then and there that Kara would be beyond stunning as a bride – and I wasn’t disappointed.Just a few floors away, Rick’s vows were tucked safely in his shirt pocket:I couldn’t resist taking him to this bar near the hotel casino – it was almost completely dark inside, and I love how it turned out:Kara’s reaction when they first saw each other was priceless:We hopped into the Hummer limo with the happy couple and the bridal party for the drive to the ceremony site……and when we arrived at the Sunrise Beach Club, we were greeted by a trio of strings:Under a sunny blue sky and a soft white canopy, they read those handwritten vows to each other. The signing of the register made things official……or maybe the kiss did. 😉 At the end of the ceremony, the people swimming nearby clapped for the new Mr. & Mrs.LOVE LOVE LOVE – my favorite picture of the day.Off to the reception at Luciano’s of Chicago, where the sounds of the steel drum band set the mood:Then a DJ took over the musical duties for the first dance:The night was full of very sweet moments, including Kara thanking her parents for a beautiful day:And lots of fun moments as well, when everyone took a turn on the dance floor (including Kara’s grandma, who I have to say is one of the coolest grandmas I’ve ever met):Cheers, Kara & Rick – thank you so much for choosing me, I know it takes a lot of faith to fly someone in that you’ve never met! Special thanks also to my friend Scott Taylor for coming out to second shoot for me!

Snapshots: Nassau, Bahamas

This summer I shot a fabulous wedding in the Bahamas (oh don’t you worry – you’d better believe you’ll see tons of those pics here), and since I hadn’t been there before, my second shooter Scott and I decided to go a little early. So here are a few snippets of our adventures around the islands, all shot with *surprise* a Canon S90, my point and shoot of choice! The color of the water in the Bahamas is an almost unnatural shade of teal:Sometimes the sun sets in shades of fire……and sometimes in shades of cotton candy:The locals are as colorful as the islands:And last but not least, the funniest thing we saw the entire trip – a sign at Atlantis:

Engagement: Kaci & Ryan – Notasulga, Alabama

When I drove into Kaci and Ryan’s neighborhood, I had a feeling we’d be shooting near the entrance gate, not just at their house. What I didn’t expect was the neighborhood kids staring at us while joyriding by on a golf cart, or the random black dog that decided to come out of the woods while we were taking pictures in a field!
