BLOG

I’m still a little stunned.

Rangefinder Magazine (the biggest professional photography magazine in the US) recently held a contest for the cover of their July issue, sponsored by Nikon. I thought, what the heck, and sent in one of my favorite recent images, thinking it might stand out because it was something different (not a wedding image or typical portrait), but certainly not expecting anything because of the caliber of work that is regularly published in the magazine. Awards were given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, as well as the top 10 honorable mentions – and I just got an email that I received one of the honorable mentions. The email also mentioned there were 1700 entries, so when I did the math in my head, I was totally floored and completely flattered. It blows my mind that I placed in the top 13 out of 1700. I think I’m still in shock.

What makes it even better, is that even though I didn’t win the cover, they will be featuring all 13 winners’ images in a 4 page spread inside the magazine, so I will be officially published. The images will also be displayed in their own gallery at next year’s WPPI Convention in Las Vegas, which I will definitely be at because they are giving me complimentary registration too! Thanks so much to Rangefinder and Nikon for the honor!

The Myers Family

Are they totally the All-American looking family or what? I have to give brownie point to Chris, who planned ahead and gave Jene a session for her Mother’s Day gift – talk about a gift that took some thought! So they let me loose to rearrange the furniture in their house, and this was the end result!

Louise & Bob’s 50th Anniversary – Samford University – Birmingham, Alabama

Birmingham’s Samford University was the place to be if you wanted to celebrate Louise & Bob’s Golden Anniversary. Plenty of family and friends gathered to have a bite in the middle of a beautiful rotunda and had a laugh listening to great stories told by Louise & Bob’s children. The couple even re-enacted their original cake cutting picture from 50 years ago!

Wedding: Madalyn & Jerrod – Morningview Baptist Church – Montgomery, Alabama

The day started out hot at Morningview Baptist Church – and just before the ceremony, the bottom fell out. Despite a huge thunderstorm and Jerrod trying to put the ring on Madalyn’s RIGHT hand, they made it and got married (just teasing Jerrod, it happens all the time!). The reception was conveniently held downstairs, complete with goodies from Uniquely Yours Cakes & Catering. I love these two because they are up for anything (remember their engagement session in the fountain?), and they didn’t let a little rain get them down. We still did their formal portraits outside, and when it was time to leave in a shower of bubbles, we grabbed an umbrella, Madalyn kicked off her shoes, and they went for it! Thanks Madalyn and Jerrod – I was happy to get rained on with you!

Bridal Portrait: Trenna – Montgomery, Alabama

We thought Trenna might be cursed by rain – her bridal portrait session was rained out once, and shortly before her rescheduled session, it rained again! Luckily, it cleared up quickly – so while Trenna and Shane are off enjoying their honeymoon in Hawaii (yes, I am totally green with envy!), enjoy the bridal portraits we did that day. Their wedding sneak peek will be up in about a week!
