Wedding: Evelyn & Ben – Old Alabama Town – Montgomery, Alabama

Tobey Maguire (Spider-Man) and Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) have been on Evelyn’s “hot list” for quite a while – what’s really funny to me is that I think she found the one guy on the planet (Ben) that looks like a mix of the two! I had been booked for months for the original wedding date they had planned, but luckily, they were able to change it and I was able to be there for their intimate ceremony in Old Alabama Town. They gave me plenty of time with just the two of them to get some fun stuff (including our own little re-enactment of “American Gothic“, which turned into something more like “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon“!).

International award winner!

Part of the WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) convention is the WPPI International Awards of Excellence 16×20 Print Competition. This competition is held once a year, and entries come from photographers all over the world, including the best of the best. I know that just a few weeks before the convention (and a good month after the entry deadline) they STILL had 150 boxes of prints left to open and sort! The prints are scored by a panel of judges, and all the prints scoring high enough to receive an Accolade of Excellence or better are hung in an exhibition that is open to view during the convention.

So I go strolling through the print exhibition and spot a few prints from friends of mine, then I get to the end of one aisle and see this:

Woo-hoo, I was awarded an Accolade of Excellence (actually, my first thought was more like, “Holy cr*p, that’s mine!”)! I’m totally thrilled to be in such fabulous company!

Viva Las Vegas!

Just got back from a fabulous trip to the annual WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) convention in Las Vegas! This convention is HUGE – and when I say huge, I mean 10,000+ photographers attend, and that is no exaggeration. Almost the entire Bally’s and Paris hotels are filled with just photographers, and it takes both hotels’ convention areas and ballrooms to house everything.

I try to go every year because there are incredible classes from some of the best photographers in the world – to give you an example, one of the speakers I was able to see was Denis Reggie, who shot the weddings of John F. Kennedy, Jr., Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and NBC’s Campbell Brown, just to name a few. There is also a huge tradeshow, which I love because I am always looking for the best new products to bring back to you. Let me just tell you, you are going to LOVE the two new things that I ordered! Of course I’m not going to tell you what they are yet, because that wouldn’t be any fun! 😉

Being a self-proclaimed foodie, I also love Vegas because there are a ton of fantastic restaurants – unfortunately, between classes and tradeshow business, there isn’t always a lot of time to grab more than just a quick bite. But, my friend Kamee and I were able to make it over to Mario Batali‘s B&B Ristorante at the Venetian one night, and it did not disappoint. It is considered the sister restaurant to my favorite restaurant Babbo in New York, and the food was just as good!

And…something exciting happened to me while I was at the convention, so be on the lookout for my next blog post to find out what it is! In the meantime, here are a couple of happy snaps:

The Riggles: Part II!

My favorite red headed family is back! Matthew has gotten so big, he can sit up on his own cute little baby booty now! Mom & Dad are so laid back and fun, I’m not surprised at how easily he smiled and laughed (and bit toes).

Audra & Rob

I’ve known these two for a while now, and when little Emily gets here, I know there will be no shortage of people who want to babysit! I wonder if she’ll be obsessed with turtles like her mom?
